From the italian: sviluPpo di una soluzionE tecNologica per l’imprEgnazione di scarti di materiaLi compOsiti per il trasPorto aereo sostEnibile

The PENELOPE project has as its ultimate goal the development of new solutions of prepreg composite material oriented to the market of commercial aviation, with a low environmental impact and efficient from the point of view of costs, which are created using an innovative approach to design is defined as “cradle–to–cradle (“cradle to cradle”).
This will be achieved through a “circular process” developed for the recovery of waste composite material edited and non-edited, which will then be reused to become part of the industrial process of starting. The final product will be a factor for aircraft seats in the composite material, large size (min. 2 square meters of surface).
The technological importance is linked to the overcoming of the current design criterion that aims essentially to the use of carbon fiber materials in the virgin impregnated in thermosetting resins which, while contributing to the reduction of CO2 emissions in the strength of the lightweight characteristics of the final product in the consumption phase active in flight, and offers a choice of sustainable materials and production processes, linked to the consumption expense.
In the framework of the project will be also outlined a plan technical and economic feasibility for the construction of a pilot plant potting “in-situ” composite material recovered containing the certifications necessary for the production of prepregs on a large scale, and from the high attributes of quality.
